Catch Up

Two weekends ago we finally finished the door project. Saturday morning they came down and we lightly sanded, then treated them with wood conditioner and stained them. Rebecca sat out in the yard and played with playdough in her high chair for the first round--that wood conditioner is TOXIC. While we stained, she watched "Halloween Mickey" (Sing-a-Long-Songs, Happy Haunting, I think) in our bedroom. We had hoped to get the first coat of poly on that night, but the stain didn't seem dry enough. No doors that night.

Sunday morning we got the first coat of poly on. Sunday night, after Becca's bedtime, we re-sanded, wiped with mineral spirits, and applied the second (and final!) coat of poly. Again, Rebecca was in our room, since the house was open and all. Monday night the doors went back on.

Wednesday we had playgroup over at our house--and Rebecca insisted on holding Everett (and wearing the nursing cover). Alex is in the background, leafblowing with the Dora backpack.

Thursday I painted the trim around the door/laundry room window and shelf during preschool and again at nap time, and Friday we finally got the curtains back up.

We felt so guilty about that last weekend being no fun for Rebecca (she spent a lot of time on our bed since the whole house was stinky/a "no touch" zone that we made sure to do something special for her this last weekend--PAWS Farm. Here are some of the cuter shots:

Can you see her?

And then we started in on the last, true eyesore in our living room: the fireplace. If you have a fireplace that measures up to 43" you can buy a new set of doors for a couple hundred bucks at a big box store, but it you're lucky like us, yours will measure 46" and will cost a couple grand. So we're trying pain first.

It looks so much better open, even, but with Becca I don't dare leave it that way. And no, the pig is not an eyesore.

Tuesday GG and GPop's package arrived--Becca popped up from her nap to open it.

She especially loved the "Monster Mash" card,

using it to chase away a lone fly in the kitchen.

And then there's this ridiculous monstrosity--Rebecca keeps wanting it back out of the garage, and insists it still fits.

And I just liked this one.
