Pretty Crafty

Today Rebecca made her first foray into the Wonderful World of Crafts.  It went pretty much as expected.

Let me preface this by saying that most of the kids who were crafting that day were older than Miss Rebecca; had considerably more experience with crafts; and while they were cute, had nowhere near Rebecca's potential to skate through life on their looks alone.  So who cares if our crafting experience was a little different than most at the table, right?

Anyway, the crayons, my first choice, weren't dark enough to do much, but she aimed them at the pot, and I grew hopeful.  We tried the markers, which covered both the table and my arm nicely, but she had no interest in aiming them at the pot (just me and her mouth).  On to stickers, an obvious choice, but she screamed and tried to shake them off her fingers (I did put one on to show her how, but it was still a no-go).  She thought the glue stick was lip balm (which she *loves* to put on herself).

We eventually settled in on Mommy holding Rebecca with one arm and putting the glue on the pot, placing a piece of paper over it, then having Becca tap it into place).  This worked until one stuck to Becca's hand and she tapped (flailed) so hard that the pot popped out of my hand and hit the floor (note the chips).  She then chose to try to peel off all our hard work, so I chose to get her a snack.

She did love patting the dirt into place, so all was well.  And even though my friend in charge felt so bad about our chipped pot she wanted to give us a new one, I wouldn't exchange ours for anyone else's.  And I wasn't about to start over, either.  So here it is.

Ahhh. I'm glad you didn't trade it in. That's a great "first craft" memory!
